I have always used toothpaste rubbed on the surface to remove rings on furniture caused by glasses, cans etc. I never use the whitening type because it could be very abrasive. If it is caused by the heat itself you can try dabbing with spirits of camphor, let dry and polish. This usually works on varnished items. If it is lacquered wood, try a paste of powered pumice and linseed oil. Make sure that you rub with the grain.
Good luck.

Before you go to the extreme of refinishing try this first. Get your mayo jar out and rub into the spot, then I put a big clob all over it , let set for 20 minutes or so. wipe an area off if gone remove allthe mayo and it you still have some thier put on more mayo. This can take several times so don't give up.

The only way to remove it is to have the table refinished. My table does the same thing. You must use trivits or pot holders for hot plates or dishes.
