If the violence in a film serves a purpose that will make people think, it's appropriate. If the violence is only there to stir up violent feelings in people, it's a form of pornography. In the recent film "Pan's Labyrinth" the violence depicted is really harrowing, and not "Hollywood" at all. But it shows what the characters are really up against, and the courage it takes to resist violence. So the use of the violence in the film is appropriate for adults (no one under 16 in my opinion) to see.

In all honesty, i grew up with violence in film. I was watching Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm street and countless action and horror films by the time i was 8 and 9 years old, and i haven't done a single violent thing in my entire life. We shelter kids from this stuff but it honestly makes no difference. Its parents upbringing that screws up kids, not what they watch or listen to, and it should honeslty be up to parents and not committees to decide what is appropriate for their particular child. I honeslty can't watch movies on TV anymore, they are so edited for content it makes me sick.

violent films should be shown at any time. Reality is violent, society is violent. Art imitating life or vise versa.
