"Speaking for the ACLU, Mr. Rust-Tierney was a leading proponent in the late 1990s for unrestricted access to the Internet, arguing before the Loudoun County Library Board that people would "continue to behave responsibly and appropriately while in the library" and that "maximum, unrestricted access to the valuable resources of the Internet" should be allowed. The fact that he was later arrested for having illegal porn does not invalidate his arguments for unrestricted access to legal information via Internet in libraries.

You conveniently--or more likely dishonestly-- omitted the next two paragraphs from the story:

" He said the Internet was "rapidly becoming an essential tool for learning and communication," and that libraries played "a vital role in assuring that the Internet is universally available to all segments of the population on an equitable basis."

Mr. Rust-Tierney also argued that parents should have the primary responsibility for setting rules for their children regarding Internet access, and that "older minors should have access to resources appropriate for their age group, even if such materials may be considered by some parents to be unsuitable for younger minors." "

No-where did he advocate allowing anyone to access illegal pornography from the library.

I do not see a valid reason why porn should be kept out of PUBLIC libraries as long as it is LEGAL porn.

Ppl forget that pornography IS LEGAL. The illegal stuff is the child porn, etc....

PUBLIC libraries are paid for by ALL ppl's tax dollars and should provide LEGAL stuff applies to ALL ppl.

In the event some of the suff, like porn, is in a library then all they need to do is have an adult only section behind the main counter and check identification before a person can sign it out.

This is suppose to be a free country for ALL PPL!!!!!

No. and that i imagine that is about the acceptable question that Yahoo has even allowed to submit on the topic. awesome job, Ernie. more suitable, i do not see the Liberals screaming about it. apparently, baby sexual abuse in effortless words bothers them at the same time as some perverted Republican does it.
