Her later collections were Questions in 1930 and Talain 1938.
The dominant themes in her poetry were love, death, childhood, maternity, religion, justice and the beauty of nature and of Chile, her native land. She also wrote fables and continued publishing in periodicals.
Gabriela Mistral died of cancer on January 10, 1957, at the age of sixty-seven. Her body was flown to Chile and buried in Montegrande. Her name was Lucila Godoy (Chile 1889- NY 1957), she was a teacher, then a consul in Lisboa and Naples, and consul for Chile in NY. She received the Nobel Prize in 1945. Her work stems from the Modernism, with influence from Amado Nervo and Ruben Dario, with use of symbols and colloquial language. Her favorite subjects were maternity, love, death and references to religion.
