Hey, My fiance has always had this crazy idea of owning a pet monkey. he has found a good breeder and everything and all he needs to know is that it is ok with me. I have never known anyone with pet monkies and would like to know if they make good pets. how hard are they to care for? what are the pros and cons of owning one? anyone have any comments?

Monkeys are illegal in some areas, check your local legislature on that. Some places require special permits. It's very difficult to find vets that have ample knowledge when it comes to non-human primates, so make sure you locate one and are willing to travel the distance.
After you decided that you are up to years of commitment to the animal(some live 20 yrs or longer) check this web site:

Look at ARTICLES/INFO and TESTIMONIALS and watch the PowerPoint presentation. I think this should help make up your mind.
Good luck to you and thank you for doing your research BEFORE getting the animal. I wish there were more people like you out there. It would be a better world for animals for sure.

Which on of you are going to stay home and take care of the monkey. They are a 24/7 job. If they are not kept clean all the time they will draw roaches and ants. Yes they are adorable and lovable but I would never ever own one.....

I would think twice before jumping into this project.

Well think of all the cons first..
They need to be with other animals of their own kind
They turn aggressive when older
I've heard of it being described as "looking after a very bad (not exactly naughty, bad as in severe case) special needs child"

I really don't think you should do this. If you do please research for many years. Many monkeys end up being given up to sancturies or are kept in a tiny cage their whole life when they turn aggressive.

I would not get a monkey for a pet. sure they are cute, but when they get older they get more aggressive, and I would not want to clean up after one, I have also heard they throw their poop around. Get a nice dog instead.

They are good pets if you like to get bit and have monkey poo thrown at you.
