With many highly successful performers, it's not about talent. I've been at amateur night shows at small-town bars that had people more talented than big name singers. Those big names have something that got them there, however. It might be looks, fashion sense or performance ability.

In my case, I'm not a very good singer or guitar player, but I'm a decent performer and usually get a good response from a crowd. Beyonce is a much better performer still, and has the good looks, fashion sense and promotional skill to reach the top. Getting to that point does not take only talent as a singer or musician; the ability to please a crowd is the most important skill for any performer.
