Being a young, single EU national, I'm thinking of moving to Bratislava for a year or two, mainly for the purpose of having fun (heard the ladies there are gorgeous!), and also in order to experience something new etc.

Are there any other people in Slovakia? What do you think?
Also, any recommendations on which part of the city to focus on (I do fancy, of course, living near areas with pubs, places etc)?

BTW, I speak a little Slovak if it helps (Sarvus, Djakuyem etc).

Ty vole - no, no one lives in Slovakia. It is merely a figment of your imagination, invented only because it rhymes with Czechoslovakia Now come on, what were you thinking when you asked if there are any other people in Slovakia?

Seriously, now, Bratislava is a fun small city - with the greatest fun centralised in "Bratislava 1" - Stare mesto (Old Town). If you are looking to live in the fun part of town then you should focus on the pedestrian-only centre here. I used to go to Bratislava often on business trips, staying for a week at a time, and found the numerous pubs and cafes in the Old Town perfect for winding down. I also found that even the one time I stayed in a hotel in Bratislava 2 - Nove mesto, even though it was considered central by local standards, I found the location a bit inconvenient. Travel here is by tram, trolleybus and taxi, with the first two being very slow and the third capable of putting a small hole in your wallet.

Sorry I can't help you out with the chick report. But I do hear guys say that about Czech women too. And Swedish women. And Romanian women. And...

Anyway, I highly recommend checking out the Slovak Spectator (link below) for more information, though it looks like you'll need a subscription for culture and restaurant listings.

Forget the Hostel, the people who made it admitted they'd never even been here.

Work could be a problem unless you speak excellent Slovak or are able to teach English (most schools are asking for TEFL these days). I understand there are quite a few expats in Bratislava who'll no doubt advise you on areas to live, etc.

If you intend to have fun here, you'll need another two words - na zdravie!

We live in Zilina, Slovakia (both foreigners one Oriental, one English), and actually visited Bratislava today. There are some decent shopping arcades(Aupark, Avion Shopping mall etc.) there. We also went to Vienna today which is just across the border. Both places are really good for sightseeing (castles, museums if that is your thing). We would definitely recommend coming to Slovakia for a while.
