It is very frustrating when I am viewing a website, and without any effort on my part, the computer clicks over to a GATEWAY search page. It does this several times a day and it is disruptive. How can I stop this from happening?

Obviously you caught a Virus/ad-ware. Just go do a virus scan... It might solve the issue, it might not...

you may encounter a home default page. to change it.
on internet explorer menu bar,
click tools, then select internet option.

on general tab, point to home then fill up the adress u like to use a default home page (every time start internet explorer) eg: http://www.google.com.

or

if u like to see empty skrin when opening internet explorer.
