Starting seeds indoors is dependent on where you live and what you are planting. Each plant has a different date. For instance, tomato plants are started indoors six weeks before anticipated planting outdoors. Each seed packet will give you this information for the climate that you live in. A sunny windowsill will not do as indoor seedlings need about 16 hours of light a day to produce a good, healthy plant. Anything less will give you a leggy, not happy plant. Some seeds like the cold such as lettuce and spinach and can be direct seeded into the soil. Seed starter kits are geat just be certain that you will be able to provide the 16 hours of light. And yes, it does matter when you start. If you plant seeds too soon, the plants will mature and will not do well outdoors. You need a good gardening book on how to do this. This is not as simple nor is it as difficult as it sounds. I do this every year and have lots of success and lots of failure.

Start seeds in the winter in a tray that you can buy from you home and garden store and the use of a growing light, lets you jump start your gardening season. As soon as the seeds are in the stores you can start your planting.

They really need to be babied if you wish nice plants but you can try if you are careful of them and keep them in a sunny window as long as it is warm ... move them to the interior of the room at night since windows are too cold for them at night ..... do not water them too much and keep an eagle eye on them....

Peace & Love
