I'm almost 16 and there is a boy at school that every girl would absolutely kill for. I see him for more than just looks, however. We have a lot in common from grades to the same preferences in music, to hobbies. I have a hard time opening up to people and he does as well. We've each only had one previous relationship that did not last very long. I've done as much as I can to get to know him (talked, spent time together outside of school etc.) but he just wi;; not loosen up. I'm afraid he's just closing himself off ocmpletely from people and he's not being his true self. I know that because I do the exact same thing. Should I continue just talking to him or should I just take the initiative and kiss him and see how he reacts to it? What's the worse that could really happen? Or is it better just to tell him? It's really difficult to explain. He's just a mystery and I can't figure him out, but I'm attracted to everything about him. Maybe I should just back off. I don't know anymore

Sounds to me like there's a fine middle ground that you're not considering: ask him out.
