That's just the way he is on camera. He usually travels with the other guys from the show (Ricky and Julian) and says he is always happy the other 2 get recognized and he doesn't because he does not dress in character like the other guys. There was a movie filmed previous to the tv show, and he was involved with sound mixing I think, where he started doing the Bubbles gimmick. It was a hit with the others so when it became a tv show, he was added as a main character.

His name is Mike Smith and he is just portraying the character. The glasses were a joke gift and he created a character with them on. (Bubbles) He's just a normal guy who used to be in a band called Sandbox, they actually had a few hits here in Canada, where we DON"T all marry our relatives.
