Any powerful solvent (lacquer thinner, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, etc.) will dissolve Styrofoam. Urethane, a more expensive foam, does not readily dissolve in these solvents. Generally, Styrofoam is either blue or white while urethane foam is brown (tan).
