There is no need to make a confrontation out of this. It's not like there is anything they could do that would make you want to room with them, so put the responsibility on yourself. Say something like "I stay up later (or go to sleep much earlier) than you guys, I've decided that I should room with these other two because our habits will be more compatible and everyone will be happier." Make the excuse something that is more or less true so they don't feel you are giving them a bull story. It could be anything, i.e., habits, or you are working on a project with the other girls, or you owe them a favor, etc. Nicely but firmly repeat yourself if they try to talk you out of it.

Um, don't. You tell a teacher you want to room with the two nice girls. Then, when you're in France, and get the room assignments, be like "oops, I guess Mrs. Smith put me in this room. Oh-Well, It's only like two weeks, so we'll survive."
or, grow a backbone, and not worry about what the mean girls are going to say. If it's a school trip, I assume you're in high school, so, honestly after a couple years, you're never going to see these girls again. So go up, and say, "hey, you guys are mean. I'm going to room with Shelly and Stacy"
Your choice.

You are overdue for a frank talk with your friends about your feelings.
The room is beside the point, the fact that you feel they would "gang up on you" is the issue.
Talk to them about what they're doing to make you feel this way and that it's driving a wedge between you.
If you're honest, you might have the time of your life with ALL your friends.
If honesty doesn't sit well with them, and they get mad, your room problem is resolved anyway.

Dont ruin the experience. Just outright tell them you are going to room with girls you feel closer to. They might try to manipulate you or hurt you but that just proves they arent good friends. Do what you have to do for yourself because if you dont you will have a miserable life catering to others all the time.

Tell them the other girls asked them first, and you tried to get out of it to br roommates with them, but the other girls got really mad, and you felt really bad. So you hope it would be okay with them if you didn't stay with them cause you know they'd understand because they're your friends.

they do not sound like your friends. just room with the others. you do not owe an explaination to anyone. just do what you want. share with the others. you do not even need to tell them,. arrange to have your own room, or room with nicer people.
Bonne chance

I wouldnt lie-- cause no matter what the truth comes out. So just be straight up with them, and if they dont like it, then tell them to grow up, and act like adults.
