Keep the room clean by vacuuming, scrubbing, washing, dusting, or whatever else you need to do to keep it presentable. If your stuff starts accumulating again, just take a few minutes each day to put everything where it belongs.
Find storage space. Dresser/desk drawers, closets, space under the bed, attics/basements, spare rooms. Whatever works, put your extra stuff there. Have a system for storing clothes, both clean and dirty.

Personally, I don't find laundry baskets to do the job. They usually don't have lids.
What you need is see through containers, that have lids.
Or if you don't want see through, try card board boxes, of all shapes and sizes. And use wall paper or gift wrap paper to conseal them.
You can buy wallpaper or gift wrapped that have black and white strips, or hearts, etc. etc.
Use different paper for each box, that way, as time goes on, you will know where things are, just by the colour/ design of the box.
And if you get untidy again, at least the it won't look so bad because the boxes look so nice.

I know this is an never ending problem I try to make our bed every day and neatly fold the extra blankets on the end using a laundry basket is fine..I wear very casual clothers to work every day so I put my jeans and tee shirts socks etc in one on Sunday night and I don't have to go hunting every morning.. Then just try and keep a waste basket and throw things away as you go..even throw out the ripped and worn out underwear and missing socks too.

CLOSET-If you have a closet and stuff the best way to help keep your room organized is to use it! Put jackets, sweaters, sweat shirts, shirts, skirts, dresses, pants, and purses in there. If they is any way have two poles in your closet, one on the top and one towards the bottom. Have the top one with shirts, sweaters, jackets, dresses and then for the bottom area have skirts hung and the on the actual rod itself, have your pants hung over it. keep all your purses at the wayyy bottom in little boxes or something.
DRESSER- you won't need to use it that much. just for like soccer shirts, any sort of beggy shirts, sweat pants, etc. Bra's, undies, bathing suits, belts, scarfs, anything. Have a book shelf with books, magazines etc.
Always make sure you keep everything organized like every week and see what can be fixed and changed. You might have to fix a lot and keep adjusting things for a while to keep them organized and the way you want them.
Gooood Luck!!

purchase some rubber maid totes with covers. they sell them at wall mart. they hold alot of stuff and stack on top of one another . label the outsides with tape you can write on so you know whats what. that should get things in order and reduce clutter. they come in many sizes.

Color coordination always seemed to work for me. Shelves up higher on the walls make more floor space, and as long as you take your trash out often it should be liveable. Gooodluck.

throw out what you do not use.
get up early every day and clean and straighten out your things out.
when you are done with what you are using put it away right away.
do not be lazy. it will cost you more time and work latter anyway
