Next year, I'm going into high school. I saw the movie Bring it On, and now I really want to be a cheerleader. The only problem is, I can't do gymnastics. I can't even do a cartwheel. Does that mean I won't be able to be a cheerleader?

Also, can you be a cheerleader when you are only a freshman?

Thanks.

P.S. If you saw the movie Bring it On, you know what I mean by the gymnastics thing.

Hollywood is Hollywood...not reality...Don't believe everything you see in the movies...And yes, 9th graders are cheerleaders too...They usually have junior varsity (9th and 10th grade) and varsity (11th and 12th grade) squads...Chances are, if you have at least a little agility, flexibility, and dancing ability, and can maybe shake your hips some, depending on the music, you should be able to be a cheerleader...I don't think that a cartwheel is absolutely necessary to be a cheerleader...Its not like you will be doing it Friday nights at the football game (cheerleaders at my high school didn't)...It was more about clapping and getting the crowd into the game...Sure, some will be able to do it, but I doubt that all the cheerleaders at your school could do it...They would probably train you to do it anyway, if they thought it was necessary...

Gymnastics is a big part of cheerleading, so getting on the squad would be hard for you. Freshmen can be on the team if their is a junior varsity and varsity team in your high school.

for my team you dont need any tumbling although it helps. i would love to be on a team with jv having all tucks. anways for some shcools its a big part of it for others it s not. try and go to tumbling and you will get your back handspring in about a year or 2
