depends on how old they are and what they are using it for. i think if they are under 10 they shouldnt be on there more than an hour. if they are over 10 maybe 2 hours at the most but monitor what they do - there are lots of freaks out there!

Depends upon their ages if they are in elementary school they shouldn't be on more than 2 hours a day and never after 6pm. High school 4 hours but not in a row.. 2 in the morning.. 2 in the afternoon. Keep your daughters off the internet at night that is when all the pervs come out of the woodwork.

As long as you feel comfortable supervising them. There are too many predators out there these days and I wouldn't feel comfortable at all with my daughter on the computer without me in the same room. If it's for a school project, allow them unlimited time. However, if it's just to chat and mess around, I'd put my foot down. There is so much these days that we have to protect our children from. The computer and internet has become just one more thing. Only one of the big differences is you can't see who is on the other end of the internet connection. You just never know who your children are REALLY talking to. That's why we have to be extra careful with that sort of thing.

My daughter (12) has free reign over the internet. Luckily though, after about 1/2 hour or less she's bored and begs for the TV back. But then again, the computer is in the living room and I'm ALWAYS there to monitor everything she does.

We have just got the internet in the house. I have the computer in the living room so I can have better idea how long etc they are on. My 13 year old gets 1 hour after his chores and homework are done. He can get extra time if he is doing homework. The 10 year old gets 45 minutes, again if her chores and homework done and extra for homework on the net.

13 year old is a bit obsessed at the moment with it so am trying to curb it a bit as I feel he shouldn't be on it too long.

You do not tell us their age! My son is 7 and he does not go on it everyday. We have designed a chart with his input so that it is also his choice (within reason, of course!). So on Mondays he reads before bed, Weds and Fridays we play a game together as a family, usually monopoly and the other days he can have computer for 15mns. We also use this as a reward scheme. So everytime he does something "good" he earns an extra 5 mns on the computer or if he does something "bad" he looses 5 mns. It has helped with behaviour and it means he is doing other things apart from computer all the time. Computer time also stands for playstation time by the way!

Hope this makes sense. I suggest sitting down together and agreeing on a chart or something you can keep track of. This way you are all happy and it is also their choice not only your imposition. And for those who will say that the kids will get too much, they do not as you can guide them in their choices by suggesting other things to do and explaining why.

Also the computer is in the family room so we are usually around when he is on it. This way you can keep an eye on the child and they are not isolated in a room in from of the machine.

And my 3 yr old does not get computer time at all!!!

Good luck

My parents never really gave me a time limit, and i regret it(yes i know, odd). Anywho. I would suggest elemtary school age or less: only 1 hour a day. For middle school: about 1-2 hours for homeword and 1 hour or so for chatting, emailing, ect(of course, monitor them always). for high school: 2-3 hours for homework/research and 1 - 1 and half hours for chatting and such.
Also, after homework but before fun time on the comp, have them do what chores need to be done still(clean their room, wash the dishes, take the garbage out, ect).

I'd say 1 hour a day is enough but make sure their p.c is in a place that can be seen by you and use a net nanny to keep them safe from perv's.

Not more than a few hours a day. Maybe 3-4, depending on what other activities you want them engaged in. You want them to have plenty of time for talking and hanging out with friends (in real life, not through Instant Messaging). Computers do have the ability to teach children a lot about life, yet they will probably learn much more through real experiences in their own lives.

no longer than 1/2 hour monitor watching without a 15 minute break.
common sense would tell me no more than 4 hours a day.
anymore than that would b unhealthy, anti-social & leave less time 2 do other stuff.
homework & chores?
how about setting down, some computer-free days?
2 ensure time is spent learning & not just looking at stuff they shouldn't.
that's just my opinion, others may say something different.
