No. Although they contain mostly wax like substances, it's very highly unlikely that fabric softeners would clog your drain. They are made to wash cleanly through your draining system. The wax is retained on the clothing, but not the pipes.

Can you be more specific with what happened? Do you have a clogged drain, or is that what you think it is?

I used to be a technician for Sears and repaired washer and dryers. If you can tell me what happened maybe I can make suggestions for you.

I don't think so. My mother uses liquid softener and always has from as far back as I remember, and her first washer lasted her about 20 years (of course, she has MUCH better luck than me, and I don't use liquird softeners) and she just replaced it this year (2007).

As they contains various oils, yes. They are especially harmful to septic systems.
