Not sure where you got your facts from but that number sounds low. Not sure why you think that politician's involvement would improve things because seems like mostly they screw things up or make them ever more complicated.

As far as those "useless" liberal arts subjects, which ones are useless? Spelling and writing? Looks like you could use more practice with that if you want to become a respected professional. The thing about a course being useless or not is that for any given person, something might become intensely valuable but until you gain life experience, you don't know which thing that might be.

You go to college not only to prepare for a career, but to prepare to be a knowledgeable citizen in a world society. If a job is all you want, go study a marketable skill at the local trade school. That is NOT said to knock tradespeople, but it is a statement that there is a broader purpose to a university education. If you can't see that or don't care, don't impose yourself onto the others who do want to teach and learn and grow.

I go to a liberal arts college and in America we value a diversity of knowledge over technical skills. I'm not saying one is right or wrong. I am a political science and women's studies double major, and I have taken courses from Byzantine Art History to Chinese and Latin. Although these seem useless they teach analytical skills and add depth to education. While only 28% of Americans graduate from four year institutions many more graduate from technical schools and 2 year colleges or serve in the military.

Contrary to belief it isn't about money
