Odds are very good you have two males. Often stores only sell males because they are so much more colorful than females. It probably won't go much past a little nipping and that should settle down before too long once a pecking order is established in the tank.

Gouramis are related to Betas (Siamese Fighting Fish). Gouramis are sometimes semi-aggressive behavior towards each other, but I would say this isn't common. They tend to not bother other fish. They like floating vegetation. Could be a case of overcrowding that is bringing this on. Figure one gallon of water for every inch of fish, maybe a little more water per inch.

You could possible have two males or two females. Go back to the store and ask if you can exchange one if possible
