My 5 1/2 month old has two coming in at the bottom right now. I usually cool a teething ring. I understand that it's too big for your baby. Look in the baby section in walgreens or cvs and check the section where they sell all the teething products. They have a really small teething ring in one of the boxes. I found it last night! Try the baby towel in the freezer method. It keeps them sane during the day. Just wet a baby wash cloth, freeze it, and serve it lol. Orajel... It works great. They have a box of two half night time the other half regular. The night time is a bit stronger. But it's great. Good luck and congrats on the newborn!

It's not unusual for a baby that age to be teething. My youngest brother was born with a tooth and I think that must be because he is the only one I've heard of. You can get teething lotion for her gums at the pharmacy and you can also give her baby Tylenol and that really helps. You might want to think about keeping a bib on her all the time now, too, as she is going to slobber all the time and have her clothes wet which is not good. You'll also have to take extra care when you bathe her as the wrinkles under her chin get nasty from being wet so much. I had a pediatrician tell me once that teething doesn't make babies sick as it is a normal body function and they are prepared for it. Yea, right! My kids and grand kids also had diarrhea from it a lot. Teething is just one of the minor joys of motherhood. LOL Thankfully there are a lot of major joys. You'll just have to try the different teething toys. My kids never liked the ones you can keep cold. Some kids do. My youngest grand is 7 months and she has a little string of rubber beads that she gnaws on all the time and cries for if she drops it. She's been at this for months and still doesn't have a tooth through. When you can see that tooth and it's really almost through you can push on it and help her get it done. I know a friend of a friend who has to take her little one in so the Dr can split her gums as her teeth just won't come through. She was a year old and still hadn't cut one. I hope this is of some help to you. Blessings to you and the little one

buy a watermelon...put it in the fridge until it is cold....wash the out side very well....chop a piece off and cut it so the green side is shaped like a triangle (atleast 3"x3"x3" big enough so she cant put the whole thing in her mouth) take off all but maybe a quarter of an inch of the pink......then give her the green triangle...i hand it to my son with the pink side down because it is his bottom teeth that are coming in. OR my son likes to put the vibrating thing from the bassinet or bouncy chair in his mouth against his gums (I am currently searching for something that vibrates that he can get in his mouth a little better though, like a electric toothbrush except i think the vibration on those is a little too much)
ADDED..make sure the points of the green side of the watermelon are not sharp...cut off just a tiny bit if they are

I do this and it works. Take a small amount of cloth (mabey a bit bigger than the baby's hand) and sew it so there is only 1 open side. Fill its will corn, seed, noodles, whatever, just make sure its not grainy and doesnt find its way out of the cloth.
Freeze it and then the baby can chew on it.
Its also a good idea for reusable ice packs!

Our pediatrician says not to use Orajel or Ambesol or any of that stuff. She says the numbing effect doesn't last long, it mostly washes away, and it can irritate little tummies.
Instead, talk to your pediatrician about offering your baby some Tylenol (or Motrin, which works better and lasts longer).
And try things like frozen bagels, frozen waffles, frozen washcloths...
Sounds crazy, but my daughters loved chewing on one of the new plastic corks from a wine bottle. We ran it through the dishwasher, so no worries about alcohol or anything. But it was a perfect size for them to hold on to, it had just the right amount of "give" when they bit down, and I didn't worry about little pieces breaking off for them to choke on.
Everyone finds their own magic thing...

My daughter went through the same thing. I used Hyland's Teething Tablets. They are small and dissolve instantly- no risk of choking. You could also try putting a damp towel or cloth in the freezer for awile then letting her chew on it. Sometimes, though, the only thing that would help my daughter was to let her chew on my finger, it almost always calmed her down instantly. Good Luck!

i am 13 and i learned this what you do is take a cloth soak it in water then put it in the freezer for about 20 minutes then take it out and let your baby chew on it. It will relieve the pain and it won't hurt anymore.

I think it would be ok to use the ointment. she is almost 4 months. if your concerned, call her pediatrician. anything cold that she could chew on would work. try slicing a frozen waffle in half and letting her chew on that, their a good sponge for drool too.
