our baby is waking up with her little nose plugged up with dry boogers and the bulb aspirator is not doing the job, my wife is removing them with a very thin q tip, I told her its not recommeded, but its the only way. We are using the saline infant drops but they only help some, not in the mornings though since the mucous has build up from the previous night.

I came across this battery operted nasal aspirator, has anyone tried it? and where can I find one locally without having to order it on the net?

my 12 week old baby has the same problem and i've been using saline drops and let it soak for about 2-3 minutes (u should give the saline drops time to it's job, u should not pump it after u have put the saline...)then i pump it all the way about half an inch in my baby's nose cause sometimes the outer area seems to be clean but u have to consider that the mucus have build up inside too...and most of all our humidifier is always turned on esp at night the mist would help...

If during the day, take a shower or warm bath (not too warm for the baby) together. The mist will help loosen them and then use the rubber aspirator. It is an opportunity for closeness and gentle water play, also. Otherwise, at night, you may want to try a humidifier in the room to help keep the air a bit more moist if it has dried out from heating the house.

saline will dry the nasal passages more and should be used only for WET boogers. To soften them up and help with the cold, try breastmilk. Your wife could squirt it herlelf, or express some and use an eyedropper.

When ever I have this problen I usually let my one soak in the tub for a while and wash her face/nose often with a warm face cloth. We play little games while doing this where's my little angel? and hide her face under the cloth! Peek a Boo! Her little boogers end up getting moist and are easier to remove afterwards. Works everytime. Good luck!

My son's dr recommended using a q-tip, but he did mention to make sure you rub it so the fibers aren't loose. He also recommended infant saline drops, or plain boiled water. With my son it always works. Sometimes the buggers don't come out right away, but it softens them up and eventually come out. And he breates better in the process.
