I doubt it! Classical music hasn't died out (People STILL dance the waltz and listen to Mozart!) and blues is around, along w/many other forms of music. Besides, new generations of kids keep "discovering" groups like the Stones and the Doors! My kid (age 16) is in a rock band and loves groups like The Ramones, The Clash and Sex Pistols. Many young guitarists are still borrowing from Hendrix, Vaughn, B.B. King and Clapton. It's a growing, evolving thing.
P.S.: I'm glad someone else mentioned rap first; if THAT (some of it's okay, but most is PRETTY boring!) and Country (also repetitious) are still around, then Rock, which is SO much more diverse, as someone else wrote, will last forever!

The question is not whether rock and roll will exist in 100 years, but rather what form it will take after that length of time. Think about 'popular music' over the years. Various forms of music such as the symphony and the opera have gained dominance amongst people's favours during the passing centuries and even since the 60s, 'rock and roll' has evolved. More recently music has seen a general amalgamation of genres, so rock could feature rap style vocals, and hip hop might contain a pop melody.
I have recently witnessed the rise of the 'psuedo-genre' of 'emo' (emotional music, or emotional rock) and it's true that youngsters today know very little of rock outside of this area.
Also playing a part is the way in which we listen to music. Hundreds of years ago, people went to see music performed live as a night out, because sound recording was not possible. As the record player and wireless set made their way into people's homes, they began to listen at home, but for much shorter periods, which changed the length of a piece of music dramatically. Today, now we have an explosion of portable music devices such as mobile phones, mp3 players and other gadgets, perhaps we will change the way we listen to music again, and this might have an effect of the future of 'rock and roll'.

Rock & Roll died in 1958.
Ironically enough, only the name
lived on.
I remember driving to work in
1959 and searching Wibbage
and other radio stations for any
thing that had that quick jump beat
to it, with the fast piano & big horn.
But as the song went, "the levee was
dry."
Music had changed. Novelty songs
were in, like the Purple People eater
and Alvin & the Chipmunks.
The Twist came along followed by a
menagerie of dance songs: "The Fly,
The Huckle Buck, The Walk, Mashed
Potatoes, The Limbo and on and on.
Connie Frances and Ray Charles
soared to the top. The Hollywood
Argyles had a biggie with Alley Oop.
Then came the Girlie Groups with some
great music, followed by the Beatle
years, with that off-key sound.
Yet when you played these songs next
to Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Buddy
Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, etc; one thing
became painfully clear.
Rock & Roll had died.

Good rock songs are timeless, and will be popular for many years to come, just as old folk, classical, jazz, blues and many other styles of music, have lasted for over a 100 years.
Even today, the most popular songs are basically rock songs, like Boston by Augustana, or How to Save a Life by The Fray or My Immortal by Evanescence or Mad World
by Gary Jules.

Rock and Roll will never die.
I recall my Mom asking me (in a disgusted tone) if I really thought I would be listening to the Rolling Stones 20 years hence.....that was in 1964, and I am still listening to them; so is the rest of the world.
What will not last is Hip Hop. Also, Country Music is evolving.

No just because real rock and roll isnt main stream and playing on the radio doesnt mean it doesnt exist. If we keep buying this crappy music well thats what the man is going to keep feeding us. Yes it will be still be alive when we are old and grey because the true fans will teach the definition of music to their children. And it will just keep going.

No it will not die out. I was just listening to Snoop Dogg - Riders on the Storm, that's a classic Doors song. Everyone in every genre respects the significance of Rock & Roll.

As powerful as other genres of music have been (punk, new wave, hair metal, grunge and I believe even hip-hop) they have all had a comparatively short existence.
Rock has transcended generations and I think it will continue to do so. The strength of rock has, I believe, always been it's "styles within the style." Country rock, southern rock, heavy metal, alternative, etc. are all styles themselves but still fall within the basic rock genre.
Rock will continue to change, with certain styles coming and going, but I don't think it will ever die. Long live rock!!

To quote one of the greatest rock bands of all time "rock and roll will never die". sure half the bands comin out these days all have the same sound and its not even music...lets all play the same chords and jump around and scream, yeah thats so cool. everyone wants to sound like the next guy, noone wants their own sound anymore. the 70's and 80's were the best times for music, but not anymore.

Hell no! Rock will never die out! Even the new generation is listening to stuff that my parents used to listen to. Take Metallica for example....I hear all the little kids running around saying how "cool" they are and I just laugh and think psshh I've been listening to them since I was in diapers lol. I've noticed a lot of rappers are even trying to remake rock songs. That's cause rock is where the true talent is!
