I have 2 questions from my homework I just can't figure out. can someone help?
1-What is the x intercept of the line -10x - y = 16
2-find the x-intercept and the y-intercept of the line x - 4y = 12
x-intercept = ?, ?
y-intercept = ?, ?
and I have a question that I answered but not sure if its right. could someone check it?
The graph is plotted for the equation 2y + x = 1. What is the slope of the line? this is a multipule choice question with these choices:
m= 1, m= -1/2, m= 2, m= -2
I had originally selected -1/2 but then changed it to 2. I am confused about this one.
If someone could help I'd appreciate it. :)

SS4, thank you so much your answer was easy to understand. I sometimes forget the steps needed to get to the actual x= or y=

1.for 'x' intercept set y=0
so 'x' intercept=-1.6
2.'x' intercept=12
y intercept=-3
your original choice was right

1. The x-intercept is where the line crosses the x axis. That means that y = 0. So, in the equation, it would be --10x - 0 =16
-10x=16
x=-1.6
So, the x-intercept would be at (-1.6, 0).
2. Same thing here.
X-intercept => y = 0
x - 4(0) = 12
x = 12
So, x-intercept is at (12, 0)
The y-intercept is just the opposite; where the line crosses the y axis. Therefore, x must equal 0.
0 - 4y = 12
-4y = 12
y = -3
So, the y-intercept is at (0, -3)
3. You were right the first time. Note that there are a lot of equations for how to determine the slope and I don't know which one your teacher showed you (or if you learned more than one, which is common), but the one I'm using is:
m = (y1 - y2) / (x1 - x2)
So, first you just have to pick random points on the line. I usually just use the x- and y-intercepts, mainly because most of the time on tests and homework, you're going to have to figure those out anyway, so you already have them. Solve for the x-intercept and y-intercept just like I did above. You'll get (1, 0) and (0, 1/2)
Put those numbers into the slope equation above. It doesn't matter which you use for y1 and y2, just as long as you use the same order for both x and y.
So, you get m = (0 - 1/2) / (1 - 0).
m = - 1/2 / 1
m = - 1/2
Hope this helps you!

1, The x-intercept, or the place that the line crosses the x axis, is when y = 0. Substitute that value for y, and determine the corresponding x.
2. Same story. Evaluate x when y = 0, and y when x = 0. The x-intercept will be at (?, 0), and the y-intercept at (0, ?), where the ?'s are the result of the above evaluation.
3. It is -1/2. If you express the relation in the form y = ax + b, the slope is a. In this case, y = -x/2 + 1/2.

1. The x intercept of y=-10x-16, 0=-10x-16, -16=10x, x=-8/5
so x-intercept = (-8/5,0)
2. x Intercept, let y=0 , x=12, so: (12,0)
y intercept, let x=0 , y=-3, so : (0,-3)
3. y=(1-x)/2 , therefore m = -1/2
