I would say 8-9. I would go to the camp w/ full contact. It prepares him for later on if wants to play high school, college and beyond. The one without contact doesn't really prepare you for hits and contact later if he wants to continue to play. I started when I was 8 (full contact) and I played almost every year all the way to college.

Well in my area Tackle Football started at 5th Grade(11-12) and all the kids loved it.

I started playing when I was 10 and weighed 85 pounds. 5 games into the season one of our players busted his shoulder. In the final game I broke a finger. It's a very dangerous sport but I love it.

8 years old. Start him early, he'll be a better player, and he wont be a sissy. The contact at that level isnt that much anyway, and if he gets used to the contact when he's younger it wont be that hard on him when he's older.

Let him go. Its the most wonderful experience your child will ever have. I wish I started playing before I was 15 because its the best game in the world.

I would say no sooner than 6th grade, regardless of height and weight. There can be a few years to learn fundamentals (passing, catching, kicking, punting, positioning) prior to any contact.
