i need a sizable amount... and it has to be dark-colored and will be exposed to oxygen...

Ceramics are good, though they are not elements. So I don't know if that's a requirement in your situation. I'd look at aluminum oxide (alumina) to start with, or magnesium oxide (magnesia), hafnium oxide, or zirconium oxide.

The material would have to be ceramic. Someone mentioned carbon but at 3000F this would rapidly combine with oxygen to form carbon dioxide - the notorious greenhouse gas that is also plant food. High temperature pottery is fired at about 2400F and there are a number of ceramics that go to 3000F.

I believe that carbon will work. It might have to be in the form of graphite and may burn if combined with oxygen.
