No. After so many hours productivity falls. Making the day longer would be harder and less effective for everyone.

I wouldn't, usually around the last period of school it's hard to do any kind of work, and I and others start to drift off and start daydrreaming about school ending. Sometimes I actually fall asleep. I then I go home and take a nap. Maybe if school started later also, and there was a lot less homework, so we could go to sleep earlier and wake up later. Weekends being longer won't help if you forget everything, and teachers would just give you tons of extra homework because you have "more" time. So the 3day weekend wouldjust be more time spent on school. I don't think it would be a good idea.

Longer school days will happen by the year 2010. 3 day weekends won't. Some states already have all year school with 2 week breaks every 9 weeks. Society, single parenthood, childcare are all the issues that will effect this change. The NCLB Act is the reason for longer days so schools can meet the requirements of the Act. There are 5 - 8% children in almost every school that require special teaching aids due to ADD/ADHD/SAD/PHYSICAL IMPAIREMENTS. In order for schools to keep their extra-cirricular activities, this will happen. I just did a study on this.

The more real question is would students be able to miss even one day of school if they started missing longer days?

One would have to be awfully close to perfect attendance to get through a 6 to 4 school day four days a week. What if a student had an injury or significant medical downtime? Harder to make up the work.

What about the poor teachers? There aren't enough of them now anyway.

Well if school was extended 1-2 hours longer than it'd be okay but I think any more than that, school would just be more of a drag!
And not a lot of more homework would also have to be guaranteed
=D

i have a study hall my 8th period which is my last "class" of the day and i know if i had an actual class i would not be able to pay attention as much as i would at the beginning of the day.

actually i would prefer it. but im one of those people who enjoy school. i could actually probly stand to be there until about 7:00 as long as we didnt have a lot of homework and school started at around 9:00 am. but yea a three day weekend would still be nice.
