My son hit a curb hard. The front right part of the uni-body, ahead of the wheel well was bent. The car is old and not worth much. Our debate is whether it makes sense or not to even take it for an estimate for straightening or repairing the damage.
I know this cost varies but What does it cost in general to have this done? $400? or $1500? or more?
Does frame straightening ever work-leaving the car without alignment problems?

This is a '89 Civic. We paid $1500 for it a year or so ago. Would repairs cost more than it is worth?

a free estimate is worth it , $600 would be all i would be willing to spend on it , there might be hidden damage too , find out what the motor/trans will swap into and get one that needs your mechanical parts or just sell it , advertise it at a local high school with an auto body course , good luck

If the front wheel was not touch by the body and the car still
drives fine and steering wheel is still centered, alighnment will
not be affected. Depending on how bad uni-body is crunched,
most of the time it can be pulled or streched back out into place.
If it is too bad, they like to cut out bad section and weld back in
a new piece this is where it gets costly. Time, material & labor.
They all go by hourly repair rates, U must get estimates.

If it is bent in front of the wheel is the best bend. A body shop like mun can laser straighten it and realign the front end. THis should be documented by the shop thaqt it is in Manufacturers tolerance and you should have no long term problems.
You say it isn't worth much how about replacing it. that would be more than repairing it....
