I was listening to an old 80's cd today, and I was listening to Billy Idol's "Eyes without a face". Was he the first rocker at that time to co operate rap into lyrics? I know there was Aerosmith and Run DMC, but I think Eyes was out first. What do you remember?

Blondie's "Rapture" was the first song I remember with 'rap' in it.

You are correct with your dates though - 'Eyes Without a Face' came out in 1984, and 'Walk This Way' with Run DMC came out in 1986. Good memory - I thought it was the other way around :) 'Rapture' came out in 1980.

I also found this regarding 'Rapture':
This was the first #1 hit song with a rap. Artists like Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaataa, and Kurtis Blow had been rapping since the mid-'70s, and The Sugarhill Gang had the first Top-40 hit earlier in 1980 with "Rapper's Delight," but until this, rap had never been incorporated into a hit pop song. Debbie Harry did the rap, and it was really ridiculous, with lyrics about the "Man from Mars eating cars," but the novelty helped the song become a hit.

Back in 1965, Shirley Ellis was the first to incorporate rap into lyrics with: The Name Game, The Clapping Song, etc.

as far as i can remember blondie had the first rap lyrics in one of her songs.

also Anthraxs was one of the first to ad rap to heavy metal and that surely was the end of any good metal song!

Hard to tell. I've heard interviews with many rappers who claimed that Crosstown Traffic was the first rap ever, if not in the name, then at least in the structure. And I think you have to listen to the rappers' vote on this one.
