Your wife does not hv to take a GED. She can apply as a International student to college with her german high school cert. She has to take the SAT or ACT though. She must take the TOEFL. It wont hurt if she take 1 or 2 SAT 2 subjects. Anyway her application must follow the route of an international student so she has to fill the International application form of the respective college. Tell her to talk to the counsellors at the International Admission Office of couple of colleges

Of course! She will have to take placement tests, and her GED. If she starts at a community college they give you time (up to 12 credits) to get a GED so she can start classes while she works on getting her GED which also helps when taking the GED. She may have to take ESL (English as a Second Language) classes depending upon the placement tests, but you don't have to take the TOEFL until you apply to graduate school. I am glad to see that you are so supportive, I wish you both the best of luck!

If she has a diploma equivalent to an American HS diploma then she wouldn't need to take the GED because that's for people with no HS diploma or equivalent, if this equivalent diploma she has from her country is valid here in the US then she can go to college or take online college courses if it is not valid here then she would have to take the GED, there are some colleges that give you your GED as long as you accumulate a certain amount of college credits. Good Luck

Check around @ the local colleges. At my local community college, you DON'T need a high school diploma to go to college, and after you have completed 12 credits of study, they will issue you a GED diploma.
She may not need to take any additional diploma courses to start college.

I believe there are concessions that can be made for individuals who hold foreign diplomas or equivalencies. I would not take the GRE and go through those channels unless I knew her equavalence would not count. Contact her preferred college's admission office to find the answer your question.

Are you saying online GED? I did a search and found some sites that offer one:

I do not see why not, she will probably have to take TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) though.

=] yes it is quite possible! She just needs to make sure she has enough background knowledge to answer the questions and get them corrrect. There are various things that she needs to prove and if she can, I am sure she is well off.
