To answer your first question, I think there are so many religions because of "Narrow-mindedness" Every religion has to believe they are the true one or else everything they stand for is ruined. All of the ceremonies, all of the baptisms, all of the sacraments. All of the "traditions."
I think the Muslims hate America because of the freedom we have....they have to cover up their women head to toe because of their religion, whereas ours can wear whatever they want.
If you say you're Greek Orthodox, that's fine, but now you're starting to break away, and starting to think for yourself--- that's what kills religion, so probably soon you'll be agnostic.
If you really think in-depth about it, you might come to the conclusion that religion doesn't seem to be a very good thing for the world
All it does is make people feel better about dying, but let's face it when you die, nobody knows where you go, so I'd suggest living life in a moral way, treating others how you want to be treated, not just because of religion, but because it's the right thing to do.

To begin with, Buddha is not and was not a god, he was a philosopher: Buddhism is not a religion per se, more a philosophy of life.
Secondly, there are not "millions of religions who worship the same god" - there are only three. What you are referring to is doctrine. Your particular doctrine (Greek Orthodoxy) believes in the teachings of the same prophet as other branches of Christianity - the prophet Jesus.
The other two "religions" that believe in your god (Judaism and Islam) merely have different prophets (Moses and Mohammed) and different doctrines.
There are, of course, other religions that do not believe in the same god you do, but you did ask about your's, so I won't go into the others.
Personally, I think the world would be a far better place without religion. At least then, we wouldn't have religiously rabid nuts (especially the ones with a tendency to use bombs) running around shouting "my prophet is better than yours".
I, for one, don't believe in, or pray to a being that is higher than me, because there isn't one - just as there isn't a being higher than you.

Some of it is earnest and at least started with good in mind. Once others saw a way to exploit it for the cash or the devoted following, it got bent. I would never tell a child that there is a human in the outer space that gives us cookies and sammiches if we grovel or prostrate and that same good thing has that gives us the cookies and sammiches made a fouled up nazi with spikes and chains that will allow us and send us to an everlasting torture.
There is good and there is evil. Misquoted into God and Devil for explanatory purposes.
You wanna believe in a pony ride everlasting or lava surfing, that's kewl. I will not try to alter or persuade you to not believe, and you do not try to persuade or alter my viewpoint and all is good.
One Belief, One Religion, be decent and help those that need it. When we exit it is my hope that we have left it better than when we arrived.
God is kewl, religions of man twist the good for their own purposes.

I understand what you mean, but I don't think that's right at all. The Christian God is completely different from Buddha or Allah or Kali or Tom Cruise, just as all those gods are completely different from one another. Each religion has its own beliefs and its own view of who God is. Even if you're right and all those different gods are the same god, each person has their own perception of God. All Christians have the same God; but there are different denominations(such as Catholic, Baptist, Lutheran, Mormon, ect.)because each of these has different methods of worship. The core beliefs of all Christians are the same.

Your question is not strange or stupid at all.
Not long ago, I saw an article about the human mind being basically "hard-wired" to ask spiritual and theological questions. In other words, humans all over the globe, at some point, will entertain questions about the great beyond and how everything came to be.
And, being the self-serving little toadies we are, we have this need to feel that OUR particular philosophy or theology is the "correct" one - or at least a lot of people need to feel that way.

Their is a huge difference!
Budda has a specific set of rules...and Buddhism was invented hundreds of years, after Budda died.
Allah is a wise, cruel, cude and sly "god" that believes in right treatment of all Muslims and they believe in the death by killing unbelievers. And the book the Koran alas book CONTRODICTES itself.
Christains believe different things, The difference in the church of Christ is different beliefs about Jesus, Bible, and traditions (like chatlics) and mind set.
If you want to know which is the best read the Bible and evolve you own opinion.
Christains believe in the trinity Father god Jesus the son(earthly being of God), and the spirit.

God warned us about denominations......this was what he was talking about. I'm a non-denominational christian so I don't get caught up in all that. To be a Christian you must believe in Jesus. Buddhists do not believe Buddha was god, but he had reached enlightenment and others Buddhists try to do the same. I don't know what Greek orthodox is but if you guys believe in Jesus then your christian no matter what anyone says.

Partly, You are right. God is one. Al ilah il Alah, as the muslims would say.
We differ (Christians specialy) because our religious leaders had (have) huuuuge egos. Each one of them needs that ego fed. So we have Patriarchs, Unpecable Pope, Righteous Anglican Leaders.......so on, so on. However, that`s not just Christian issue, no, Jews had the same. Their God, their Saviour had to be different than the Saviour of others. God forbid that they have the same treatment as other nations. But, that`s how islam began, too. No,no, Muhamed had to be so special to discover God himself! Like, God was so stupid, or what, that could not reveal Himself to humans in his right form, untill Muhamed came to be....
But this is all for a reason. It`s human nature. Religious views differ so much (politheism, monotheism, atheism, the female issue, the questions of life and death...to small ones:how many wounds on Christ`s body, who is the right successor of Muhamed....).It gives people feeling that they belong to something, that they are part of comunity (the one they choose to be part of, or the one they are forced to be part of), they are special, chosen, protected in some way.... It`s a necessity, like choosing a football club You`ll chear....
So, aknowledge that all religions (except satanism) say Killing is a sin, lieing is a sin, disrespect to parents is a sin (among the same religious group, of course, You can kill, lie,and do all the hidious thing to others of course, to please Your God, or save their souls...)and find the one You like the best...
I personaly like Orthodox Christianity (being one myself), it`s peacefull, has great music, fresks, strickt feast (good for health)...There are things that should change, but as You know, You have to be active memeber of churche to make it evolve....So, don`t be bothered, God is wise enough to prefere good people of any religion to all memebers of one...

amen to that brother i totally agree in every way. thats why i stopped going to church. when it all comes down to it its all basically the same . jesus or muhamed or whatever they call him.if everyone lived by jesuss teachings then wede all be better off. it doesnt matter who said them. theyr just right. love your enemy end neihbor and all that. i dont need a church to do what god wants. people need to stop trying to be right. and just get along , accept and be open minded.
