What if I told you that anybody can be good at public speaking?

You'd tell me "yeah right" or "not with my luck"

But I tell you my friend, its possible and do able.

Public Speaking is communicating to the masses. The size can vary from 10 people to 100 people. It can very and the pressure is on when you don't know what to do. This is where practise and repitition comes into play.

When you are infront of the crowd, you are thinking "don't screw up, don't screw up" or "Crap, what am I doing?!" or my personal favorite "I hope that I don't look like an ****"

Instead, do this;

Practise your speech alone infront of a camera. When you practise, you get to make your speech more flowing, more natural.

Have a handful of your friends to chair the practise and they will give you valuable input on how to get better.

Remember that your speech is aimed at your audience, not at yourself. When your prioritize the transfer necessary information to your public, it gives you a sense of purpose and importance.

Relax. Nothing is more pleasent than hearing a relaxed speaker who is quick on his feet.

Knowing your stuff inside out is key to avoid hang ups and those questions which can flank you and catch you off guard.

Don't forget to breath because when you forget to breath, you are putting pressure on your chest, heart and brain and to compensate the lack of oxygen and in turn, your muscles weaken, you sweat heavily and you feel like you'd rather have someone do a eulogy for you!

and relax. Have fun while your doing it.

goodluck

cheers

The fear can start due to an early experience which caused you embarrassment or failure. To overcome a phobia or fear, it is best to confront it in small steps.

If you know someone or work with or for a person who is particularly good at this, you could mention to them that you are trying to improve this aspect of your skill set.

When you do this you will be thrown all sorts of public speaking opportunities. Some which you will be well prepared for, and some which you are landed within a few minutes of having to give the speech.

This may cause you a lot of pressure, but it will definitely improve your public speaking and remove the fear (although it never goes completely). It is a bit like performing, and the performance is like an Adrenalin drug. The fear never leaves as otherwise you would not get the Adrenalin rush.

I know it's corny to say, but it takes practice to overcome fear. I am going through the same thing, I hate public speaking. It just takes practice and just getting through it to overcome it. I think everyone has some degree of fear of public speaking, and noone ever fully overcomes that fear. A small part of that fear is always there. It's just being comfortable enough up there to get through it.

Learn EVERYTHING you can about the subject on which you'll be speaking. Learn it inside out so that it's a natural part of you. Then stand in front of a full-length mirror and read the speech. Look up at the mirror occasionally, pretending it's the audience, as you will when it's real. Record the time that you have spent doing the speech, and adjust it if need be. Take deep breaths. Don't talk too fast, speak at an even pace. I wish you the best of luck. You WILL get through it!

here are a few tips.firstly be realistic there is no easy way to just overcome your fear of public speaking the more you speak in front of an audience the easier it will become but here's a few things that helped me.firstly you must be well prepared ' know your material inside out so that you are convinced that what you're saying is correct and that it will benefit those listening or will edify them in some way. that is most important, i personally also just try a mental exercise whereby i keep telling myself to refuse to be nervous - ie " why should i be nervous why should i allow others to make me feel nervous, what are the audience going to do to me - nothing " etc etc. thats just something that helps me. kind of like getting angry with your nerves.hope this helps

You wont overcome fear completely because everybody has a period of collywobbles before they speak but something that will help is , to stand in front of a mirror and practice your speech until you are confident in putting it over , the more you practice the easier it will become and after a few times your confidence will grow.

I used to be shaking speaking in front of the audience too. But then my mum once gave me advice that has worked for me since then: never look into the eyes of the people you are talking to, take them as one, always look just right above their heads. At the end you'll get the feeling that you are talking to the one particular person not the hall full of people.
good luck

Practice over and over... in the mirror, in your car, in the shower, etc... until you know the speech by heart.

Also - to give the illusion that you're making eye contact with the audience, which is very important: Scan the entire crowd during your speech, but keep your eyes focused an inch above their heads. It looks like real eye contact but it's less intimidating.

As they say only " PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT". Learn your subject well, practice your talk in front of a few good people who will listen and offer feed back. Break your talk down into bite size chunks and prepare some memory jogging Bullet Point Cards.

Last but not least, GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE and just do it!
