I weigh 215 pounds but most people think I'm around 180. I have big shoulders and thighs and I workout regularly, but none of this seems to make sense to me.

Last week a nurse weighed me and she had to do it twice to make sure the scale was working properly. How can a person look so much lighter than they actually are?

First muscle does NOT weigh more than fat. A pound of muscle weighs one pound and a pound of fat weighs one pound.

Muscle is more DENSE. Density is the weight per unit volume.

So a very muscular person weighing 200 pounds is going to take up less space that a fatty person weighing 200 pounds.

Keep up the exercise. It will reduce your chances for cardiovascular disease as well as keeping you looking fit.

Muscle Mass, Bone Density, and sometimes even your posture can affect the way a scale reads your weight. You are completely healthy and normal, its just your genetics. I am inheritently Irish and German and the people in my family are biologically incapable of being any smaller than 6ft.(not really, just seems that way) You are beautiful, just focus on pilates and yoga and other aerobic exercises. Limit your protein intake. And dont do any weight training with any dumb bells that weighs over 5 pounds.

I know what you mean. I look like I weigh around 155, but I actually weight 185. Most of it is because of my legs, that's the only reason I can think of.

Muscle weights more than fat so a lean person will "look" like they weight less. Also a taller person will look different than a short person with the same body mass

If you work out then you have gained lean muscle mass. Muscle weighs more than fat and takes up less space.
