The trade was a great trade for the blues They dump KT who was making roughly 3.8mpy 20ish goals and 160pim ( mostly lazy poor penalties ). Thrashers gave up hand fulls of picks/Future talent. Also KT can come right back to the blues next year and if he doesn't and signs with Thrashers blues will get another 1st round draft pick.
I think Atlanta Basically gave up way way too much for a 20goal scorer.

They picked up a tough winger and someone with some playoff experience and there is no doubt they really needed another veteran but they badly overpaid to get him. Metropolit is just a throw in, he is nothing more than a career minor leaguer playing on the 4th line to save cap space but a 1st and 3rd this year and a 2nd round pick next? They paid maybe a higher price for Tkachuk than the Preds paid for Forsberg (and Tkachuk is not in Forsbergs league). They are facing the same predicament as the Preds, if he helps them get deep in the playoffs then all will be well, if they lose in the 1st round then the Thrasher management will get bashed by everyone. They needed to pick up another solid D, they got one (Zhitnik) but they need more help on the back line.

They also got Glen Metropolit. I think it's a good trade for St. Louis, Tkachuk is dead weight and they're better off with the first round draft pick. Atlanta might be able to coax something out of the has-been, but he'll probably just be used as a second or third string enforcer.

I never know trades as to what to expect. The trade cost doesn't really surprise me though.

i think the thrashers should have got some more defensemen, that is where they are suspect this year. i don't think the thrashers will make it past the first round, and they gave up too much for a rental player
