How can I keep my house clean. I'm a stay at home mom and need some advice. I have a 3800 sq. ft two story house with a 2 year old daughter and a husband that grow up with a maid. It takes me about 9 long hours to actually get in the entire house really clean. I just can't keep it picked up. It gets so messy so fast. Please help!

Check out flylady.com It's great for people who want to spend less time housecleaning, because it helps you learn how do do it more efficiently, 15-20 min/day, with an additional hour each week. It has really helped me.

Organization and routine will make anyone's life so much easier but especially for a SAHM! I do not live in a huge home but I did growing up and learned from my mom--the cleaning whiz. What we learned growing up was to "leave a room cleaner then when you came into it." I know it sounds corny but it really works.

Here are some of my own tips:

1. Every morning right after you wake up--make your bed. Tidy your room if there are clothes laying out. This will take about five minutes daily. [Do the same for any other bedrooms in your home.] This takes about 5-10 minutes daily.

2. Buy some spray on shower cleaner. When you take a shower in the morning spray the shower cleaner [it normally doesn't need to be scrubbed] and you'll be done. This takes about 30 seconds daily.

3. After using the sink clean wipe it down--the same goes for any other bathroom accessories. You could even do a mini clean as your daughter soaks in the tub at night. This is only

4. Does your daughter have all of her toys in the living room? My husband and I feel into that trap and luckily got out of it. Have a small bin [you can get really nice cloth baskets] for some toys your daughter plays with. Rotate that out. Teach her to clean up after herself and make it a game. “Wouldn’t it be fun to see how many toys you can throw into the basket from two feet away?’ That always gets kids interested and breeds tidiness.

5. While cooking clean up splatters as they are made and do your dishes right after dinner.

6. If you can get a three teir laundry sorter that'd be great. Do one load of laundry daily this way you aren't stuck doing six loads every three days--I know how it is my boys are one and five.

7. When you get something out no matter how time consuming it is put it away.

8. Talk to your husband about wanting to maintain a clean home. Explain that if he just takes 30 seconds to sort his clothes after work rather then throwing them on the floor that your home would be so much nicer.

Depending on how much traffic goes threw your house just clean it [vacuum, dust, and mop] about twice a week. You can always spilt up these chores too. For example: I dust for about 20 minutes on Monday. I vacuum every other day just because I can and we have a lot of people over.

Keeping a clean home is all about picking up every time after yourself. If you make sure you do it daily keeping it clean will be a breeze. Best of Luck to you!

I agree about the fly lady site.
Is there anyway you can get a cleaning lady ? 9 hours cleaning is way too much. You should be spending that time with your daughter.
If not, try a few rooms a day.Your husband needs to help too.
Good luck
