Let x = the 'another number'
2x = one number
A reciprocal is the number inverted in a fraction.

So, if 'another number' is x, then its reciprocal is 1/x.
Same for the 'one number': the reciprocal of 2x is 1/2x

Now if you take and add the reciprocals in an equation and the answer is 3/8, all you have to do is solve for x.

1/2x + 1/x = 3/8

Can you do this now?

1/x + 1/(2x) = 3/8

2/(2x) + 1/(2x) = 3/8

3/(2x) = 3/8

24 = 6x (by cross multipling)

x = 4
Ans 4 and 8
