It really depends on what degree you have, the state of the job market, and who you know.
I have a graduate degree, and I was unemployed for a few months after graduating. Now, I'm in a crap job. I hate it. It pays well, but I don't enjoy getting paid as much as I do to update spreadsheets all day, only to have my boss go in and change it all because she does like how I formatted it. That's my corporate job.
I also teach college English. I really enjoy doing this except for two things: grading papers and no full-time opportunities. Because full time jobs in teaching at a college are limited in my hometown, I have to do this part time. I don't have time for anything really.
So, I've decided to get out of my dead end jobs and take a new path in life. I figure once I get done working on my education in counseling, I'll have enough degrees and experience that I'll end up with SOMETHING that I like.
Another major part is networking. Because I already know a lot of the counselors at the college I work at, I have an in. So, when I get my education in counseling, they've already expressed a desire to hire me.
So, you can have a great degree and get stuck doing something horrible, but you have to make efforts to get to where you want to be. :)
Good luck to you.

Well, I've got a BA and 2 MAs and I'm in an okay job with no real career prospects.
I did most of my further education part-time and I think it was worth every minute and every penny I spent on it. I believe education is a worthwhile end in itself.
Getting a degree is not the be all and end all, but getting an education is worth more than money and more than career prospects - it will make you a better person and enrich your life.

It is a common belief that MBA degree is the gate pass to career advancement but it is not always true. A lot of non-MBA professionals have managed to reach that career level attained by MBA degree holder by executing good work attitude, competence, professionalism and integrity.
However, you need to assess your present career and the path that you are taking vis-a-vis the career that you really desire to determine whether or not a graduate school degree is necessary. You may consider that following points:
1. Are you planning to make a career shift?
2. Is an MBA degree of advantage to your preferred career?
3. Are you aiming a position that requires a grad degree to qualify?
4. Does your company require a graduate degree for promotion? Who are being promoted?
There's a joy of having an MBA title after your name but it is not the ultimate purpose of it. Knowledge of the job, competence, integrity, work values and those traits of a good team player are still elemental to a good career.

If you really want to stay ahead, stay in school and get a Masters. A BA/BS is the new High School Diploma, and employers are less impressed. Not that it isn't important, and you can still get good jobs (depending on your major), but you are more likely to be successful with a higher degree.

it is hard and it is not a promise of a good paying job with your high degree but sometimes it helps the best thing to do is be happy about yourself and do your best to make others that you are dealing with smile and feel good about themselves and it will make your day and most of their day you never know when someone will come up to you and thank you for making their day a better one
