I have a 2002 Peugeot 2006cc. For the last week when in the first few gears when my car is cold i select the gear but my car doesnt want to go it really pulls back, then eventually gives in a shoots me forward. There is no grinding noise from the gears.

I have oil in my car. There is no warning light to tell me something is wrong. What could it be.

Could it by any chance be a dodgy lot of petrol as it seems to have happened since i last filled my tank up.

I agree with Mick. It sounds as if the brakes are binding. That is to say that one or more of the brake pads is remaining in tight contact with the brake disc. This is usually caused by a build up of stuff on the part of the brake caliper where the pads slide to and fro. This is easily cleaned off by removing the pads, scraping off the rubbish with a knife or emery paper and refitting the pads. Make sure that you where a mask as this rubbish is toxic (asbestos). A little bit of copper grease on the caliper faces helps too. Another possible cause is a sticky piston in the brake caliper. Cleaning/fixing this is more involved, so unless you are happy to buy a manual and do it yourself then I recommend that you take the car to a trusted mechanic. Either way get the car fixed as soon as you possibly can. Apart from being highly dangerous you are also wearing out the brake components and heating up the brake fluid locally in the caliper. If the brake stays locked on then you could seize the wheel up totally, with disastrous consequences.

Hope this helps, probably not -
Need to clarify, does this happen just the once when you initially pull away in the morning? If it is just the once then it could very well be the brakes sticking. However, if its consistent its unlikely to be the brakes, they would get extremely warm, you'd smell them at the very least.
Symptoms don't sound like the clutch. If you shoot forward you have power.
Cant see it being the fuel either. If it was associated with the fuel it would be a permanent problem.

Brakes take it in and get them sorted....

It sounds as if your hand brake is sticking on.Is it possible for you to leave the hand brake off the vehicle in gear dont forget to put it in neutral before starting. If you dont get the problem then you have isolated the problem to your hand brake sticking on.You may have a cable or caliper sticking you need then to take it to a garage but dont go to any fast fit service .

Fuel filter or if diesel injectors needs cleaned. Try putting some injector cleaner in the fuel and replace the filter. I assume you never filled it with Kangaroopetrol and you can use your clutch?

if it is petrol then it could be a coil pack /faulty plugs(braking down).
