Don't stop suddenly, your body will be mean to you if you do. You need to reduce your alcohol consumption, maybe change first to a lower percentage brand, then think about reducing the volume you consume. Try going out an hour later, or coming home half an hour earlier. Try some social activities that don't involve the bar, such as the gym, bowling, cinema etc. Keep alcohol out of the house ot avoid temptation.
I can easily drink a bottle of white wine a night (I moved off the beer in an attempt to lose weight), but I try hard to have a couple of days off a week. I have joined a gym to keep me occupied and balance out some of the bad I inflict on my poor body, and it seems to work.
You seem to have a pragmatic and mature approach to your boozing, so I'm sure you'll have the strength to reduce your consumption!

Not to step on any toes out there but I did the AA thing for just under a year and they drove me to...well...drink...a lot of whining and blaming and this from adults....I got so sick of listening to all the stories (which seemingly were everyones fault but the person who was the holic).......
If it doesn't hurt you life, why stop, I don't know what you mean by flaking out health wise.....but it may not have anything to do with the beer.....maybe it is time to check in with a doc.....good luck...someone told me once if you think you are drinking too much you probably are......I just said cheers to that!!!!!

The fact that you recognise you might have a problem, and that you have decided to stop drinking is a good start. Taking up a new hobby or interest may be a good way of channeling your energies into something less destructive healthwise. Good luck

If cutting off is a problem, go gradually. Not really healthy to drink that much. Talk about the issue with friends, I'm sure they'll back you up and help you kick the habit.

The alcohol may be affecting your health. Visit your doctor and tell him of your concerns. It may be something totally unrelated.

do something else to keep your mind busy, like chew gum or drink gingerale. it will keep your mind off alcohol, kinda like getting over smoking.
