Liberals live in a make believe world, where they are the good guys, like Old Western movies where the stern jawed cowboy in the white hat bravely struggles to defeat the dirty swine in the black hat.
Liberals have this mutual admiration society. They all like to imagine they are special, and they love people who are just like they are, so they never have to question their beliefs.
Hence, watching the Oscars is the center of their cultural world. It's the perfect mix: they all get to congratulate one another, smile for the camera, and get the attention they crave as much as an alcoholic craves liquor. No one is there is to disturb their magical, insulated world. No one can bring them back to reality.
In contrast, you have Conservatives who are hard at work, too busy attending to the serious business of running a nation to be concerned with this superficial tripe.
The best satire of Liberal mentality was the South Park episode in which Kyle's dad gets a gas-saving hybrid car and turns into an insufferable ecology snob. He moves the family to San Francisco, where he is surrounded by countless other self-congratulatory eco-snobs.
As for the Oscars, they're so political. They are often given to the wrong people, as the benefit of hindsight makes clear. Bette Midler gave one of the most electric, spirited, and heart-wrenching portrayals in "The Rose", but the award went to Sissy Spacek for "Coal Miner's Daughter".

I bet your entire simple world is broken down into lib/con categories.
You probably rate everything form cars to birds as a lib or a con thing. You are the poster child for what happens in this country when the educational system fails.
I see you in the same light I see the drug dealers on the west side of town... I shake my head and say...What a waste, Pawns to be used and thrown aside.

You know, I know a few Republicans that watch the Oscars as well.
I'm somewhat a liberal and I don't even care about the Oscars, except for Best Documentary Movie, but that's besides the point.

Nobody's forcing you to watch the oscars, and if there's a billion liberals out there every year who watch then as liberals we must be doing something worth while.
I enjoy movies, I enjoy the oscars, I just hope they winners don't go on and on thanking everyone from their dog to the proctologist for their success. Write em thank you notes after .

Because as you've already observed, most of Hollywood is a mutual admiration society for "the worldly thinkers."

I do not watch any awards show. It is to much like a class struggle, all those rich entertainment types, that refuse to share the wealth.

Are you just jealous because liberals win more oscars? Since when has the Oscars been coorelated with liberals? What statistics do you have that liberals always watch it? Because I certainly don't. Not everything has a partisan influence, ok?
