They will definitely call you to tell you to come in ASAP. They do not tell you over the phone because that is illegal. When you come into the office, the doctor will tell you, and counsel you to take the best steps toward treatment. If you are pregnant and you have any inclination that you may have been exposed to HIV, please get a test right away. Without effective treatment, a child has a 23% of getting HIV. With just azidothymidine (AZT) alone, a baby has only 8% chance of geting HIV. But, I recommend (and most doctors recommend doing this) that you call within two weeks even if you haven't heard anything. Doctors are thorough, but they are human and make mistakes. Hope this helps.

They will contact you as soon as possible. They probably won't give the results over the phone. When giving information of this nature, they generally want you there in person or with some form of council or support. It is generally agreed that some things should not be "dropped" in a person's lap.

They will call you in sooner than your next appointment. You will need to go on medication right away. I know how nerveracking the tests can be. Even though I knew I was clean I didnt like the wait. Then when I went to my appointment she went through them all one by one, and when she said it was non reactive I got scared. I didnt know what that meant. Ill bet you are fine, and I wouldnt worry to much.

You'd be notified to come in as soon as they had a positive result.
