If it was an emergency and there was no other way to get home, I would.

I have never hitch-hiked but I have picked up a few hitch-hikers. The last time, my wife was with me and we picked up a young lady whose car had conked out. I would not have picked her up if I had been by myself. It's too dangerous. She could accuse me of anything, and what could I do?

My friend and I hitch hiked a ride. We were planning to walk somewhere and asked a person for directions, and the person said "oh, I'm heading over to my car to go there too! want a ride?". It was a nice middle-aged lady and I was with a friend so we risked it. If I was by myself I probably wouldn't have hitch hiked. I would never pick someone up either unless it was some harmless looking child- but what would a child be doing hitch hiking?

I've hitch-hiked probably over 100 times. I hitch-hiked to see The Pretenders from Charlotte N.C to Atlanta Ga. in 1981. It was a blast but I wouldn't do it now unless I was carrying a loaded weapon! Too dangerous out there now!

It's extremely dangerous to be a hitch hiker or pick some hitch hiker up anymore. Odds are no one will stop for you because they think you will pull a gun on them or something, and if your a girl odds are some rapist/killer will pick you up. It's too risky and not worth taking the chance.

Buy a cellphone, and you will have a choice. If you have absolutely no one to call, I'm sure you could call the police and they'd escort you home.

In the late 60s and early 70s, I hitched from San Francisco to NY and back twice. I wouldn't advise it now, too many weirdos, but at that time it was a common mode of transportation...

I was totally freaked by a guy that gave me a lift when my car broke down in the middle of no-where... He was just creepy looking and we didn't talk at all... I'd never hitch hike and I'm a guy! Don't do it honey... You're too cute!

You should read "stranger beside me" by Ann Rice.

I'd personally pick up a hitch hiker if they where 1.female and 2. clean

Of course, they could still have a gun and rob me, but I don't carry much cash.

I hitchhiked when I was younger. I stopped after a very scary experience -- I thought the guy was going to kill me, but fortunately I was totally unharmed.

I would definitely try to find another way.

No, I've never picked up a hitchhiker b/c I fear serial killers. I've also never hickhiked personally b/c of the same reason.
