lol.... it's just fish. Tell her you'll pay for them, and everything they need, you'll do the maintenence. And point out how well you're doing with your current fish. But let me tell you.... they are A LOT of work. I grew up with about 5 50-125 gallon tanks in my house, and they were a lot of work. Theres cleaning, water temp, acid levels.... a lot of things to remember.

Well, the set up for a community tank is expensive. I would start with a 29gal aquarium. For your case, I would get a 10gal, as they are the least expensive. All together, everything you will need is about... $10 for a filter, $10 for a tank, $30 for the light/hood, $10 for rock. And the cost of the fish of course. This is a lot of money, so I can understand if your mom is a little hesitent.
I would start by saying that they are easier to take care of than a dog, they dont shed, bark or pee on the floor, you dont need a litter box, the start-up cost is almost the only money you'll have to pay(expect to spent at least $20 a year on keeping a 10 gallon ok, cuz you need to buy filters and aqua-safe(to purify tap water))
I see no reason not to get a fish. They're great! and if your mom is worried about the guppies overtaking the tank and becoming too crowded, you can always feed fry to the betta. (betta love eating baby fish. I know it sounds cruel, but when you have 100 baby guppies, you run out of room to put them all).
Good luck getting a solid "yes" on the guppies!

provide it a relax. the two are very long-lived, and you do not sound like a individual who's a planner. Why did you p.c.. 2 such distinctive skill pets? To have one that is distinctive? If this is your reason, have you ever seen volunteering at your community zoo or animal defend, or getting a factor-time interest in a puppy shop? it might help to look into precisely what care and fees would keep in touch with each and each puppy. you will experience a splash crushed when you get all of it down on paper. puppy nutrition is an extremely small area of looking after a puppy. And in case you short the animal on good wellbeing care and a great ecosystem - properly, that's abuse, and puppy is the incorrect word. that must be a captive, a project of ignore. Why do not you get some journey under your belt to extremely comprehend what's in contact and once you're nonetheless fascinated when you comprehend? it is likewise the only way your mom will ever evaluate "any further pets" - which seems such as you have already got extra advantageous than one already...

You need to show your mom that you are a responsible person. Start doing some research. Read up on how to properly take care of fish. Show her that you understand cycling water. The nitrogen process. Proper filtration. Proper water changes and tank and substrate cleaning. Appropriate plants for the tank. How to choose compatible fish and how to determine how much water each fish needs for their size and buying the correct size tank. How to identify diseases and how to treat them. How to test the water to make sure it is healthy for the fish. And then you offer to get a job to pay for it all. If your mom knows you're responsible, she might understand. Btw... you aren't keeping your betta and goldfish in the most proper environment that you should. Bettas should be in an aquarium that is at least 2.5 gallons of water. One goldfish needs to be in at the very least, a 10 gallon aquarium. Both of these fish need filtration and the betta needs a heater. They will get sick and die if they aren't properly taken care of. You could show your responsibility right now by learning about how to take care of bettas and goldfish.

I'm a mom of 9 kids (YES, I really have 9) they are adopted, I'm not that old. Anyway, when my kids want something, if they can show me they are responsible enough to handle it then it is no problem. Ask your mom if you can work out a "deal", where she will tell you what you need to do to show you are responsible enough and then DO IT. If you don't, you'll never get it. But if you meet her conditions, the fish is yours! That's how I work it with my kids, I think a lot of mom's do that. She just doesn't want to end up having to take care of it all the time, and having it die from neglect, etc. Those are probably her concerns, but you should ask what her concerns are with you having a fish, then make a deal to address each concern. Good luck.

The irony is incredible. Miss Independent has to ask her mom's permission to buy a guppy.
Thank you. I needed a good laugh today.
