I have my college degree, & I'm DYING for a job, & I'm disabled. I receive SSI & Social Security-$730/month. I can't work because I go to a psychiatric day treatment program, & I have to go here in order to keep my place to live with this low-income status as a psychiatrically disabled individual. I also have credit card debt, too. This is really stressing me out, & I'm crying for help. No one wants to allow me to work, & plus, they told me that if I work, I'll lose my Social Security & SSI benefits. One lady told me that the Ticket-to-Work Program was a scam, & that they take your benefits as soon as you start working. I'm in a stuck situation. Please help.

Well first deferment will take care of the student loans. Second if you call the credit card companies and explain your situation to them they will often work with you to get the thing paid off. They may even take off some of the interest due. I'm surprised that if your in a day treatment program they don't have someone to help you with your finances, you may also inquire with them about that.

Also there are many jobs you can do for cash under the table. Bar maid, housekeeper, babysitting. You should take a look at those options as well. Or get married.

For the record, SSI and social security is the same thing. If you get a job, you should be making much more than 730 a month. Company's that would hire you also offer medical insurance. And you would be able to afford more than just low income housing. State assistance is there too. I do not believe that fact that you are disabled is holding you back. A psychiatric day treatment program does not help and what do you have to go there for? And the willingness to not drop the free money does not help either.

Nobody pointed a gun to your head to force you to apply for a credit card.

If you are still paying your student loans then it's not wise to have credit card debt.

I am sure you now know this. It's unfortunate nobody told you earlier.

In my opinion it should be illegal to have a credit card if you are a student with student loans.

Write to your Congressman.

If you work then you'll lose your benefits but you will make a lot more money than if you don't work.

Use your head.

If I were you then I would sell everything to pay your college loans and credit cards.
