Do you think it's time to consider Iraq a lost cause and time to finally withdraw troops?

This is Barack Obama's deadline.

My opinion is that, despite 9/11, our government and Intelligence can protect us from another 9/11 event. I don't think we would be getting hit with terrorist attacks.

It is likely that if there is a deadline advertised, the "insurgency" will scale back, and save their efforts for a time when the U.S. is not there. This will happen no matter when we pull out.

Lacking any clear and achievable strategy in Iraq (I keep hearing there is one, but there is no evidence of any, other than a few personnel changes and sending more people into the same situation), the sooner we withdraw the more we cut our losses.

The alternatives are either to partition the country in three (opposed by the oil cartels, and likely to result in more civil war) or to be absolutely brutal (opposed by humanity).

As for the threat of terrorist' attacks, it has increased somewhat during the last 6 years, but the idiotic idea that Iraq has any bearing on whether that threat increases, decreases or remains constant is absolutely astonishingly simple-minded.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.
I think this is the situation in Iraq. They are new to all of this democracy and fighting for that cause and actually ruling their own country. Why can't they just break it all down to the sunni's and the shittes being two different political parties each with a voice of the people.......you can't because it's just like moving them from the dark ages to the 20th century in 12 months. They just don't get it.

If you pull out before Iraq is a completely self reliant country, you might as well consider the USA a lost cause because we will be getting hit with terrorism left and right. Iran will take over Iraq and make it a terrorist home.

Yes it has changed. We have no light at the end of the tunnel now. We will be there forever. And continue to spend billions of tax payer money to do so. Not like social security needs an overhaul. Not like education needs the money. Maybe assistance for seniors for drug benefits. Nah.....that money is better where it is at......going towards a pointless war with no end. Congrats Bush........
