I understand Bush got a 100% pay raise over Bill Clinton. I never heard a thing.
How did that happen without a little outcry?
Another "spit in the eye" of the people they serve, or what?

Since 1969, the prez made 200k plus expenses. In 1999, Clinton approved a pay raise for presidents starting in 2001 (a raise cannot be given for a seated prez). Dubya makes 400k plus expenses.

Considering what CEOs make for major companies, this paycheck is a drop in the bucket. Although Dubya doesn't really have to pay for anything while in office, I would think it ok to get paid that amount to run the country.

What the should be a bigger concern is that a person cannot run for public office unless they are rich to begin with. Dubya hardly needs his salary considering his oil ties.

Clinton made $200,000 per year (1993-2001), while George W. makes $400,000 per year (2001-2009).

The salary of the president had to be increased, because the salary of the vice president was about to overtake the salary of the president. Imagine how embarrassing it would have been for George W. if Dick Cheney made more money than him.

There has never been any secrecy surrounding the President's pay so I don't see that anyone has received any "spit in the eye".
