Yes you can get a degree, a lot of felons in jails get college degrees, and some even get JDs and PhDs. A nice life is what one person would consider it, so if you get a PhD in something and able to pursue your dream then you are living a nice life. If you mean get a job and make lots of money it depends what the felony was and what the college degree is, if you committed murder per say and you wanted to be employed by a top ranking university as a professor you might have some issues, but if you can demonstrate that you are changed and want to succeed then go you, and you will get your job.

As much as we love to believe that someone who works hard deserves a real chance - it's just not reality. If you have a felony, you will find that it's next to impossible to get hired. Why would an employer risk hiring a convicted felon when he/she has many other non-felons to choose from? It is NOT fair that a person with a felony be given a "life" sentence - but this is how it is.
