My personal listing:
Tecumseh (Shawnee)
Sitting Bull (Hunkpapa Sioux)
1 Chief Joseph & The Nez Perce Indians
2 Crazy Horse & The Lakota Sioux Indians
3 Geronimo& The Apache Indians
4 Quanah Parker & The Comanche Indians
5.Sequoyah From the Tsalagi (Cherokee), this brilliant man is the only person to have invented an entire alphabet from scratch. He made his Nation literate.
I would add in Jim Thorpe the great sportsman as he was a true "leader" in all he ever tried. Modern leaders: AIM and such.
To early to tell?
Just my view based upon my experience and such, if I could add in several otehrs by name, well there is no single leader of the Navajo Nation but they have come so far, how about the Pueblo? How does one state justone as to keeping their culture, turning out art? I worked the "Northern Pueblo's" as a Rehabilitation Coordinator in the 80's. Served in Vietnam with many from all Nations, etc. So the "soldier" in me picked some, the psychologist I was helped with the others.
Good question.

I figure you mean Indians? My favorites are Tecumseh, Red Cloud, Crazy Horse and Cochise, but I figure there were hundreds nobody ever heard of because they died before they could be recorded.
