One school of thought is that ,the government was elected and given the right to govern how they see fit until voted out.

However, Tony Blair has demonstrated during this time that he is unfit to govern.Law after law in a vain attempt to have a positive legacy as a strong leader has lead to irrational and desperate actions.

No one wants this law.Nothing will be achieved other than an increase in the cost of living and another angle from which the state can spy on us.

The huge petition offered to downing street has been met with contempt and answered with a mindless email that spells contempt for the public.

On these grounds ,I would encourage avoiding the charge as an act of civil disobedience and a chance to make a statement of defiance that WILL be taken note of.

Hopefully,we could try and head off this disaster by voting out this incompetent, self serving, corrupt, desperate, megolamaniac primeminister and government and get someone in who considers the country first.

And I suppose you'd all bypass your electricity meter, gas meter and phone bill if you thought you could get away with it.

If it's such a bad law, you are right to protest, and perhaps even right to refuse to pay - but the refusal to pay should be open and public. I suspect that too many answering here are the 'something for nothing' brigade and while they would by-pass the device, they wouldn't write to their MP telling them that they had and why they had.

What would be the difference between the "sneaky bypass" and theft?

To the correspondent below - no one wants this law? That's just not true. You haven't asked them all! Some people think road pricing is a good and reasonable idea. Me? I'm not so sure, but I know that we do have to do something to ease congestion on our roads. Perhaps some form of road pricing might have an effect, particularly if the revenue went towards improving the public transport network (which would, of course have to be taken back into public ownership).

One thing is certain - the current situation is not sustainable. Unfortunately, some people can't see a restriction on their behaviour, without immediately looking for a loophole which means they don't have to change.
