I have a desktop computer and my daughter has a wireless laptop computer. We have never had any trouble until today, when her wireless just will not connect at all. We made no changes on anything. It's been working fine for months with not a days down time. Can anyone tell me in 'layman's' terms what might be wrong, and how I can go about fixing it. She uses her computer for school daily, so we really need to get her back up and running. Thanks!

I want to add that my daughter also has a PlayStation PSP portable that will no longer connect thru wireless connection either. Both just started doing this at the same time today. I'm trying what everyone is suggesting, but so far, no luck. :(

Has her computer been moved to a different location in her room, wireless signals are very delicate and it can be as simple as it is sitting near a wall that is too thick. Is your router connected properly? Check to make sure the recieve, online, and send are lit up on on the router.

Try this.
First, on your desktop, click the wireless icon in the bottom left of your screen. A box marked "Wireless Network Connection Status" should appear. There are two tabs on the top. Click the Right Tab marked "Support". If the wireless icon does not appear there, try the start menu, under network connections.
Under "Support" there is a button marked "Details". Click that, and write down everything you see there. The Physical Address, IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, and WINS Servers.
Keep that information handy.
Now, click the same Wireless Internet Icon on your daughters laptop. The same box should appear.
Under the "General Tab" there is a button marked "Properties." A box called "Wireless Network Connection Properties" should appear. In that box there is a scroll menu. Go to the bottom until you see "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)". Highlight that, then click the button underneath marked "Properties".
A new box called "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties should appear. There are buttons inside to click. Click the button next to the statement that says, "Use The Following IP Address".
Get the information you wrote down from your desktop. The first box to fill out is "IP Address". This number should be 1 higher than the one on your desktop. For instance, if your desktop IP address is 192.168.1.100, then program the laptop as 192.168.1.101.
The next box is labeled "Subnet Mask". If it does not fill in automatically, then put the identical number from your desktop in there. The next box (default gateway), same thing. Identical number, just the way it looked on your desktop.
Now, there is another button to click, if it did not do it automatically. Click the button marked "Use The Following DNS Server Addresses." Fill in the DNS servers identically from your desktop.
After you have manually filled in all of this information, simply click your "OK" buttons until you have closed the boxes. The network should connect fine.
If it does not, feel free to e-mail me or if you have any other questions.

these electronics do funny things sometimes.
Fist check your Internet service is working. you can do that by directly connecting the computer to the internet DSL or Cabel modem throught ther ethernet (LAN) cable. If the service is fine,
rightclick the wireless connection icon on the task bar and click repair.
If this doesn't work, then shut down the modem and the wireless router and unplug the internet connection. Then re connect everything and restart. Most of the time this should do it.
Good luck

multiple troubleshooting steps:
unplug the router and the modem for about a minute or two and plug them back in. when unplugging, do the router first, then the cable/dsl modem. when plugging back in, do the dsl/cable modem first, then the router.
if that doesnt help, try to double click on the wireless signal icon on the statusbar (beside the clock) and scanning for a list of wireless access points. click on yours (or the highest signal strength).
if you leave computers with wireless connections on for a long time, ive noticed that the connection gets a little buggy and sometimes cuts out. try restarting the computer daily, but dont leave it on for weeks at a time.

Mine did the same last night. If it was cloudy or something that could have something to do with it. That is what was wrong with mine. So try it again and if that doesn't work try hitting the reset on the wireless router. It will start it up again then try to log on again. This is what has happened to me in the past and this has always worked.

The easiest thing to do is powercycle the router (that is the box in the house with the antenna) .. then reboot her laptop.
Also, the laptop has a little button that turns on the radio for receiving the wireless, make sure she didnt accdently turn it off

Use a different Channel. Use channel 7 or something. There may be many other wireless networks causing problems. what brand. Netgear is the best. Are you using MAC filtering?

If you have not changed anything on the internet connection then there may be some malicious programs on your drive which prevents you from connecting.
I would advise you to scan your drive/s with one/some spyware and one/some antivirus..THis might help...
I had got this problem once.It was spyware...No need to panic though...Just do what I have told you.If the connection does not work try re-installing it.
