My iron has an on/off button. It has another control for the heat and another one for the steam too.

fire safetly... if you switch it on on the iron and maybe one day you forget to switch it off , its considered a fire risk. If you switch it off at the mains then its switched off permantly . Its proabably someones common sense for the design of this switch.

Mine does not have an on off button maybe it because it was a cheap one.
